Why Taylor Law?

The Marine Management Organisation licenses, regulates and plans marine activities in the seas around England with a view to sustainability and good management.
At Taylor Law we can represent you in your dealings with the Marine Management Organisation in respect of licensing, investigations and fisheries matters.

Practical legal advice and guidance

Our team represents clients in Marine Management Organisation issues across a range of areas. We have experience of dealing with investigations and defending prosecutions as well as working to obtain licenses and consents in respect of fishing and other marine activities.
If the Marine Management Organisation is looking into your business, we can intervene early on your behalf to try and resolve matters as quickly as possible. We understand how disruptive an investigation can be and we will negotiate to find an acceptable solution without the need for legal action.
Having the right consents and licenses in place is essential to both fisheries businesses and those operating fishing vessels. Where necessary we can take up any difficulties you are having in respect of permissions to operate or any restrictions that have been imposed on your organisation.

Marine Management Organisation investigations

The organisation conducts monitoring, control and surveillance of sea fishing carried out by English boats and of fishing in English waters. Penalties can be imposed for illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing as well as for offences in fisheries. Other sanctions include closing areas of the sea to fishing, using electronic recording, satellite monitoring and use of the Registered Buyers and Sellers Scheme.
Prosecutions can be brought for any illegal activity within marine areas and fisheries, to include unlicensed actions such as depositing or removing a substance below the highwater mark, dredging or laying pipelines on the sea bed.

Contact us

At Taylor Law we understand how important it is for your marine business to have the right consents and licenses in place to allow you to operate efficiently. We can work to apply for these, appeal rejections or request alterations where needed.
We can also represent you in respect of an investigation, to include overseeing the removal of documentation and advising you throughout the interview process.

In the event that legal proceedings are brought against you, we will put together a robust defence on your behalf. Where possible, we will work to settle the matter without recourse to the court.
If your case does proceed to trial, some of our partners have rights of advocacy in higher courts, meaning that they can represent you directly, without the need for a barrister.
We have an excellent track record of success in working with clients in respect of investigations and licensing applications, with expert civil and criminal defence solicitors in Leeds, Middlesbrough and London who can step in immediately to advise and represent you.

For an initial discussion, ring us on 0113 532 8100 (Leeds), 01642 221 108 (Middlesbrough) or 0203 780 7646 (London) or fill in our Contact Form.
