Appealing to the Police Appeals Tribunal

The Police Appeals Tribunal hears appeals against the findings and sanctions at misconduct hearings.
An officer can request an appeal on one or more of the following grounds: –

  • The finding or the decision to impose disciplinary action was unreasonable.
  • That there is evidence that could not reasonably have been considered at the original hearing which could have materially affected the finding or decision on disciplinary action.
  • There was a breach of the procedures set out in the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 or unfairness which could have materially affected the finding or decision on disciplinary action.

The Police Appeals Tribunal process

You are entitled to have legal representation for the appeal. If you instruct us to act on your behalf we will put together a strong case, looking at any flaws in the original decision and putting forward solid grounds for appeal.
