Why Taylor Law?

The breach of copyright laws can result in substantial fines and even a prison sentence in the most serious cases. Offences include illegally downloading, copying or transferring online material, distributing copyrighted material unlawfully and counterfeiting.
If you have been put on notice that you have broken copyright laws or you are being investigated it is advisable to seek legal representation as soon as possible.

Expert legal advice and guidance

At Taylor Law we have extensive expertise in respect of copyright infringement, to include representing clients accused of counterfeiting in a range of different areas.
Wherever possible, we will intervene early on your behalf to minimise damage and try and resolve matters quickly. Infringement of copyright can sometimes be dealt with by negotiation, with agreement reached to take down any offending material or to cease distribution.
In the event that a case is brought against you, we will represent you throughout and put together a strong defence. Our team includes lawyers with rights of advocacy in higher courts which means that we are able to represent you without the need for a barrister.

Copyright infringement

Works that are subject to copyright are usually original literary, dramatic, musical or artistic works.
Copyright also extends to other original material such as film and television recordings, website
content, databases and software.
Copyright infringement or piracy includes unauthorised copying, distributing or selling of
copyrighted works. In the digital age, this extends to illegal streaming of content, counterfeiting of
DVDs and the sale of devices that bypass paywalls.

The Federation Against Copyright Theft

The Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) is the UK’s leading intellectual property protection organisation. It works to protect brands and combat piracy, counterfeiting and other intellectual property crime. Its members include global names in the sporting and entertainment world.
It is a respected investigator of copyright theft, passing information to the police and Crown Prosecution Service for charging.

If you are investigated by the FACT, it is recommended that you take legal advice as soon as possible. Early intervention has the potential to halt an investigation and to reach a resolution without the need for litigation.
